Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is set to move into a newly secured residence in Abuja as he intensifies preparations for Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Footynaija.com understands.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has provided the Malian tactician with a home in Asokoro, one of the capital’s upscale districts, according to a report by ScoreNigeria.
Unlike his predecessors, Gernot Rohr and Jose Peseiro, who were largely based abroad, Chelle has expressed a strong desire to live and work in Nigeria.
Chelle recently returned from a European tour, where he met with several Super Eagles stars.
During his trip, he visited players in England and France, including Fulham playmaker Alex Iwobi, Leicester City ace Wilfred Ndidi and Nantes winger Moses Simon.
The former Mali national team coach also maintained contact with key figures like Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen, Atalanta talisman Ademola Lookman, and Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong.
The 46-year-old is set to meet with NFF officials and key stakeholders to finalise strategies for Nigeria’s must-win qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March. The Super Eagles sit second from bottom in their group, with just three points from four matches.
Chelle, who was appointed head coach in January, will oversee his first competitive match when Nigeria face Rwanda in Kigali on March 21. Four days later, his side hosts Zimbabwe in Uyo, with both fixtures critical to reviving their World Cup qualification hopes.
In the coming days, the former Mali international is also expected to attend Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches as he assesses potential home-based talents for his squad.
