Olympiakos are reportedly in advanced negotiations to sign Nigerian international Bruno Onyemaechi from Portuguese side Boavista during the January transfer window, Soccernet.football understands.

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo the Europa Conference League holders are leading the race to sign the Super Eagles defender.

The 25-year-old left-back has been one of Boavista’s standout players this season, showcasing his versatility with three goals and an assist in 18 league appearances.

Despite Onyemaechi’s individual brilliance, Boavista currently sit at the bottom of the Primeira Liga table with a meagre 12 points from 18 matches, leaving them in serious danger of relegation.

Onyemaechi’s ability to adapt to multiple positions—featuring as both a defender and a left-winger this campaign—has attracted interest from several clubs.

Turkish side Trabzonspor were initially touted as strong contenders for his signature, but Greek giants Olympiakos have now taken the lead in the race to secure his services.

Olympiakos have reportedly submitted a €2.5 million bid (approximately N4.1 billion) and are keen to finalize the deal promptly. The club is eager to have Onyemaechi travel to Greece on Thursday, coinciding with their UEFA Europa League clash against Porto.

The move could mark a significant milestone in Onyemaechi’s career, offering him the chance to compete for trophies and gain regular exposure in European competitions.

Olympiakos’ ambition to strengthen their squad aligns with Onyemaechi’s potential to shine on a bigger stage, and the club’s strong reputation in Greece and Europe makes it an attractive destination for the Nigerian.

For Boavista, the decision to sell their prized asset could provide much-needed financial relief amid their struggles this season. With less than two weeks remaining in the January transfer window, all parties are under pressure to finalize terms swiftly.
