Ruben Amorim makes disappointing Man United confession after Brighton defeat

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim confessed that his team might be the worst in the club’s history following their 3-1 defeat to Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday, Soccernet.football reports.

Yankuba Minteh’s early goal for Brighton in the first half was cancelled out by Bruno Fernandes’ penalty, but the Seagulls dominated in the second half with Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter both finding the net to secure the victory.

The result saw Brighton claim their third consecutive league win at Old Trafford, while the Red Devils remain in 13th place after falling to four defeats in their last five home league games.

“We are the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United,” Amorim told Sky Sports.

“I know that you want headlines, but I’m saying that because we have to acknowledge it and change it.”

A frustrated Amorim explained where it went wrong for United. “It’s not acceptable. We can play some football but in small spaces of time, it’s not consistent,” he said.

“We get nervous and suffer a goal and then it’s hard to turn things around. Brighton were comfortable and we have to change fast.

“You could feel it in the stadium but we can’t end games like that. No matter the result, we have to be a different team in all aspects.

“It is clear [this could last for a while]. I’m not going to change how I see the game, I’m clear on that. The players are going to suffer, the fans are going to suffer, I’m sorry.”

Amorim and United will be desperately hoping for a change in fortunes when the Red Devils welcome Scottish Premiership giants Rangers to Old Trafford for their Europa League clash on Thursday, January 23.

United currently sit 7th on the Europa League table with 12 points from six matches. They must grind out victories from their remaining two group stage games if they are to secure an automatic qualification into the Round of 16.
