Liverpool manager Arne Slot light-heartedly addressed Mohamed Salah’s remark that he may have played his final Anfield game against Manchester City, Soccernet.football reports.

Slot joked that Salah could be expecting City to face relegation due to the 115 Premier League charges they are contesting.

Salah, whose contract expires at the end of the season, made the comment after scoring in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over City on Sunday.

Reflecting on the match, Salah said:
“Honestly, it’s in my head. Until now this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool (at home), so I was just going to enjoy it.”

The Egyptian forward’s future has been a recurring theme as his contract winds down, with no resolution in sight.

Slot, however, has perfected the art of deflecting questions regarding expiring deals, particularly those involving Salah, captain Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

This time, Slot opted for humour, saying:
“Maybe Mo knows more about the 115 accusations that are done so he expects them (Man City) not to be in the Premier League next season.

“I do expect them to be in the Premier League. The boring answer is always the same. This is not the place for me to talk about Mo’s contract.”

Acknowledging his joke could attract attention, Slot added: “Maybe I’ve said already too much about the joke I’ve just made. So that will probably get the headlines. But it was a joke, I repeat, it was a joke.”

The outcome of the Premier League’s investigation into Manchester City’s alleged financial breaches, which the club vehemently denies, is anticipated early next year.
