Italian footballer Edoardo Bove is in a medically induced coma following his sudden collapse during Fiorentina’s Serie A match against Inter Milan, Soccernet.football reports.

The 22-year-old midfielder fell to the ground in the 16th minute, halting the game, which was eventually abandoned.

Bove appeared to stoop to tie his shoelaces before collapsing. Teammates immediately signaled for medical assistance, and both Fiorentina and Inter players formed a protective circle as medics treated him.

He was stretchered off and rushed to Careggi Hospital in Florence.

A statement from Fiorentina confirmed Bove is under pharmacological sedation in intensive care. “The first cardiological and neurological tests performed have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous system and the cardio-respiratory system. Edoardo Bove will be re-evaluated in the next 24 hours.”

Reports from Sky Italia revealed that Bove regained consciousness in the ambulance and is now breathing independently.

His family, coach Raffaele Palladino, and Fiorentina teammates have gathered at the hospital. Fans have shown their support with a banner reading: “Forza Edoardo, Florence is with you.”

Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso said from the United States, “Forza Edoardo, we’re with you. You’re a strong boy with a great character.”

Messages of solidarity poured in from across football. Inter’s Federico Dimarco tweeted, “Forza Edo, we are all with you and your family.” Romelu Lukaku also shared a heartfelt post: “I love you lil bro. We are all with you.”

The incident brought painful memories of Fiorentina’s former captain Davide Astori, who tragically passed away in 2018.

Bove’s collapse is the second such case in Serie A this year, following Roma defender Evan Ndicka’s scare in April.

The football world now unites in hope for Bove’s swift recovery.
