Barcelona have completed the acquisition of two exciting 17-year-old talents from Mali, signaling their growing focus on African recruitment, Soccernet.football reports.

Ibrahim Diarra, a standout performer for Mali’s Under-17 side, and striker Arouna Traore are set to join the Catalan giants, as confirmed by their academy, Academie Africa Foot.

Diarra, a versatile right-winger who can also operate as a playmaker, has been a long-term target for Barcelona.

Reports from Sport suggest the club has invested €1.5 million in securing his services.

While he has already visited Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva training complex, Diarra will only be eligible to play for the club when he turns 18 in December. He is expected to join Barcelona Atletic, with the club holding high hopes for his development.

Arouna Traore, a striker, joins initially on a trial basis. His move will only become official when he turns 18 next November, in compliance with FIFA regulations. Despite his current status, Traore is looking forward to making his mark during his stay.

Barcelona’s commitment to scouting African talent has been evident through similar moves. Previously, Ghanaian left-back David Oduro and midfielder Aziz Issah were brought to the club for trials before securing contracts.

Academie Africa Foot announced the players’ departure on X, stating: “Our two players, Arouna Traoré and Ibrahim Diarra, are flying off for a sports stay at FC Barcelona. They are accompanied by our 1st Vice-president, Mr. Seydou Diallo. A great adventure begins.”

Reflecting on the partnership, the academy added: “Arouna Traoré will have the chance to spend a sports stay with the legendary Catalan club. An enriching experience to grow as a player!”

While Traore will return to Mali after his stint, Diarra’s long-term potential at Barcelona highlights the club’s strategy to nurture African talent for future success.
