Inter Milan’s legendary former defender, Beppe Bergomi, has voiced his concerns over the Nerazzurri’s current form following their 2-1 defeat to city rivals AC Milan, Soccernet.football reports.
The loss in the highly anticipated Derby della Madonnina marked the end of Inter’s six-game winning streak against the Rossoneri and raised questions about their ability to compete at the top level.
Bergomi, who made over 500 appearances for Inter, criticised the team’s defensive frailties and mental approach in the match, calling for a renewed attitude if they are to compete for titles this season.
“They had the wrong approach because they had to expect a strong start from Milan. They’ve started strong in every game,” Bergomi told SkySportItalia.
He continued, “Inter are the oldest team in the league. They struggled in midfield, and Milan’s strikers’ pace really caused trouble for them. Physically, I didn’t see Inter well.”
The Nerazzurri’s exhausting midweek clash against Manchester City in the Champions League, which ended in a 0-0 draw, may have left them drained both mentally and physically, Bergomi noted: “They played well against Manchester City, but the match was mentally demanding, and they were exhausted in the second half.”

Bergomi went on to highlight a key issue plaguing the team, saying, “When the others accelerate, their defence is old and slow.”
Inter currently sit sixth in the Serie A table with two wins, two draws, and a loss from their opening five games. Despite scoring ten goals, they have already conceded five times, underscoring the defensive vulnerabilities Bergomi addressed.
