Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is on the brink of surpassing one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s most remarkable records, Soccernet.football reports.

The Norwegian star needs just one more goal to break Ronaldo’s record for the fastest player to score 100 goals for a single club. Ronaldo set this milestone during his time at Real Madrid, achieving the century in 105 matches.

Haaland, however, is on the verge of accomplishing this feat in just 104 games for City.

Haaland’s form has been nothing short of exceptional in the 2024/25 season. In only four matches, the 24-year-old has already netted nine goals, including two stunning hat-tricks against West Ham United and Ipswich Town.

His attempt for a third consecutive hat-trick fell just short in City’s 2-1 victory over Brentford, leaving him with 99 goals for the club. One more goal would see him break Ronaldo’s record.

Ronaldo’s achievement, accomplished in 2011 during his early years at Real Madrid, has stood as a testament to his goalscoring brilliance. But Haaland, with his blistering pace and clinical finishing, is well-placed to rewrite history.

His next opportunity to do so comes in Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League clash against Inter Milan on September 18. If he fails to score, his next chance will be against Arsenal on September 22.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is full of praise for his star striker.

Comparing Haaland to football legends, Guardiola recently said, “The numbers with Erling are unbelievable. I think he can sit at the table, in terms of scoring goals, with Cristiano and Messi, that’s for sure.”

Haaland’s explosive start to the season has been attributed to a restful summer, which allowed him to recharge while others were involved in international tournaments.
