The opening Group B game at the 2024 Paris Olympics between Morocco and Argentina has ended as a 2-1 win for the Africans and not a 2-2 draw, Soccernet.football reports.

Morocco have secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Argentina in one of the most dramatic football matches ever witnessed in history.

The Atlas Lions outplayed and outfought Argentina for most of the encounter and took a deserved two-nil lead courtesy of goals from Soufiane Rahimi either side of the halftime break.

However, Giuliano Simeone scored in the 68th minute to reduce the deficit for Argentina and hand Javier Mascherano’s men a lifeline.

The game took a dark turn when Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg allowed 16 minutes of additional time despite no significant reason for the delay – a decision that aggravated the massive crowd inside the Stade Geoffroy Guichard.

And true to script the Albiceleste managed to fire in an equaliser right at the dead through Cristian Medina after a wild attack that saw several attempts blocked, saved, and hit the woodwork.

That Argentina late, late goal sparked crowd trouble as a section of the fans invaded the pitch forcing the game to be suspended with minutes left to play.

Incredibly, VAR replays showed that Argentina’s Bruno Amione was offside in the build-up to his side’s equaliser.

And an hour after the goal was scored, the referee ruled it out for offside as the crowd gave way for the two teams to return to the field to play the final three minutes.

Morocco held on to their lead to secure a 2-1 win and bag all the three points at stake.
