FC Barcelona are doing everything they can to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club, with the Spain international also the subject of interest from abroad, Soccernet.football reports.

The 22-year-old winger is Barcelona’s top priority, with other transfer options on hold until they secure his signing.

Barcelona have sent a contract offer to Williams, who won the UEFA Euro 2024 with Spain this month, and are waiting for his decision. The youngster is considering staying at Athletic or moving to PSG, Arsenal, or Barcelona.

The deal that will take him away from the reigning Copa del Rey champions will cost €62 million.

Williams has a release clause of €58 million in his Athletic Club contract, which Barcelona are ready to activate once he agrees to join them.

However, a new report from Mundo Deportivo states that a rise in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) adds €4 million to the release clause, bringing the total fee to €62 million.

Barcelona are confident they can pay this amount and have assured Williams that there will be no issues registering him in La Liga. The board of directors has informed Deco that everything is under control, and Williams could be registered without any problem.

The Catalans are now waiting for Williams’ final decision, which could come at any time. They hope for a positive outcome soon so they can integrate him into Hansi Flick’s squad as quickly as possible.
