Denmark are set to take on Germany at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund for a place in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 and star man Christian Eriksen has admitted that “it doesn’t get any bigger” for the Danes, Soccernet.football reports.

Eriksen led Denmark to a second place finish behind England in Group C to make consecutive appearances at the knockout stages of the European Championships for the first time, having reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020.

The Manchester United midfielder played a significant role as the Danes went unbeaten in the group stage of the tournament, scoring in the opening game against Slovenia and providing inspiration for his teammates from the middle of the park.

Denmark have failed to beat Germany in their last four attempts, with the Euros 2024 hosts emerging as 2-1 winners the last time both sides faced off in the European Championships in 2012.

In an interview with EURO2024.com, Eriksen acknowledged the magnitude of the tie against the host nation but maintained that the Danes would not be intimidated.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “A knockout game against Germany in Germany; it doesn’t get any bigger than that.

“A lot of people seem to think that we’ve lost already, so we can play freely and give our all. I’m looking forward to showing that we can rub shoulders [with the best teams] in this tournament.

“I believe we can beat the Germans, but many things will have to come together for us.”

Eriksen has now become Denmark’s most-capped player, reaching 133 senior international appearances, with his Man of the Match display against Serbia in their last Group C match.

“I’m very proud to have won so many international caps,” the 32-year-old added. “It’s a bit of a strange feeling because a lot of the players who are up there are all-time greats of Danish football.

“To be there alongside them is something I will look upon fondly when I’m done playing, with a big smile on my face.”
