Cristiano Ronaldo may become Portugal’s coach once he retires, according to his former Manchester United teammate John O’Shea, Soccernet.football reports.

Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, is currently part of Portugal’s squad for Euro 2024, starting with a match against the Czech Republic next Tuesday.

At 39, Ronaldo is playing in his 13th major international tournament, which could be his last as he will be 41 by the next World Cup.

Despite his age, he continues to score regularly for Al Nassr and netted 10 times in Euro 2024 qualifying.

O’Shea, as per Bein Sports, believes Ronaldo has the temperament and ability to move into coaching after his playing career ends.

“Knowing his dedication and professionalism, I’m sure he has plans for his future with Portugal and might even aim to manage the national team,” said O’Shea, the interim head coach for the Republic of Ireland.

Ronaldo has played under top coaches like Sir Alex Ferguson, Max Allegri, and Jose Mourinho, which could benefit him in a coaching role.

The Portuguese forward is the leading scorer in men’s international football with 128 goals in 206 matches, including 14 in the European Championship finals. Portugal, the 2016 champions, will also face Turkiye and Georgia in their Group F campaign.

O’Shea added, “Ronaldo has made a significant impact in Saudi Arabia and for Portugal in the Euro qualifiers. He will undoubtedly be crucial for Portugal in the tournament.”

Ronaldo is considered one of the greatest players ever, having won five Ballon d’Or awards, three UEFA Men’s Player of the Year Awards, four European Golden Shoes, and 33 trophies, including seven league titles and five UEFA Champions Leagues.
