Three years after his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, Eriksen marked his return to the European Championships with a goal, proving in Denmark’s first game against Slovenia that he is still more than capable of performing at this level.

The Manchester United midfielder created seven chances—three more than any other player at Euro 2024 so far. He also had five shots, the joint-most of any player, and scored Denmark’s only goal of the game. Despite playing in advanced positions, he completed 88% of his passes and won three free-kicks.

Eriksen will certainly be a central figure for Denmark in this game but the big question is whether he will be able to outplay England’s star-studded midfield with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Declan Rice, Trent-Alexander Arnold and Kobbie Mainoo all names who could feature for the Three Lions.

The former Tottenham and Inter Milan midfielder also poses great threat from set-piece situations and the Danes will be hoping they can benefit from one or two of his mostly impeccable deliveries in this game.

Denmark got their Euro 2024 campaign off to a mixed start as they played out a 1-1 draw against Slovenia in their Group C opener and they will be looking to avoid defeat in Frankfurt, having already dropped points in their first game.

England, on the other hand, are heading into matchday 2 as Group C leaders after battling to a 1-0 victory over Serbia in their opening game. However, an unconvincing display in that match may mean that Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate will shake things up ahead of this game.
