Brazilian football legend Rivaldo has urged his former club Barcelona to sign a new forward to replace Robert Lewandowski, Soccernet.football reports.

Despite scoring over 20 goals in each of his last eight seasons, including 23 in his first season at Barcelona, Lewandowski managed only 19 La Liga goals in 35 appearances last season. At 35, the former Bayern Munich striker is nearing the end of his career.

Barcelona are already building a young attacking lineup with João Félix and Ferran Torres, both 24, alongside 16-year-old talent Lamine Yamal.

However, Rivaldo believes that Athletic Bilbao and Spain wonderkid Nico Williams could be a key addition to the team, ensuring a smooth transition from Lewandowski.

“Barcelona must start thinking about a replacement,” Rivaldo said, as per Record. “A team like this needs the best in the world, like Nico Williams. Monitoring the best players on the market, including center forwards, is crucial. Lewandowski is a world-class star, but age and injuries can take their toll.”

Rivaldo also praised Lamine Yamal for his exceptional playing style and maturity. Yamal, still a schoolboy, made a remarkable breakthrough for Barcelona’s first team last season and played a key role in Spain’s successful run to the Round of 16 at Euro 2024.

“I can only congratulate him,” Rivaldo said. “His way of playing and his personality are incredible. It’s rare to find a player with such character. He plays with great calmness as if he had a lot of experience. He has a bright future and will bring a lot of joy to Barcelona and the national team.”

Rivaldo spent five years at Barcelona, winning four trophies, including two La Liga titles.
