Barcelona have endured a disappointing second season under Xavi after the Spaniard guided them to the La Liga title in his first season in charge. The Blaugrana will finish in second place behind Real Madrid and end the campaign without silverware.

Xavi had initially announced that he would be leaving Barca at the end of the season but reversed his decision after some appeals from the club and a major upturn in results on the pitch.

However, Barcelona have now decided to axe their former midfielder and replace him with former Bayern Munich and Germany coach Hansi Flick going into next season.

Soccernet.football has ranked Barca’s best players of the 2023/2024 La Liga campaign.

5. Joao Cancelo

In a season where Barcelona have struggled as a team with several players not performing at their best, Cancelo has managed to display high level performances for Xavi’s side.

The Portuguese full-back has been impressive for the Blaugrana and he has played a key role in their upturn in results in the second half of the season.

The Manchester City loanee has contributed 2 goals and 3 assists in 31 La Liga appearances for Barcelona this season.

4. Lamine Yamal

Barcelona’s season might be forgettable, but Yamal has made his mark with a campaign to remember as the youngster broke into Xavi’s team and established himself as a very valuable player for the Blaugrana.

The dynamic winger has delivered several match-winning performances for Xavi’s side this campaign and earned himself a place on the Spain national team ahead of the Euros, all at just 16 years old.

Yamal has scored 5 goals and provided 5 assists across 36 La Liga appearances for Barcelona this season.

3. Frenkie De Jong

De Jong covers every blade of grass effortlessly, and when fit, the Dutchman has been exceptional for the Blaugrana, orchestrating their play from his position at the heart of midfield.

However, ankle problems have curtailed an otherwise outstanding campaign, and he would undoubtedly be regarded as one of the best in the world if he could stay healthy for an entire season.

De Jong has scored twice in 20 La Liga appearances for Barcelona this season.

2. Ilkay Gundogan

Gundogan joined Barcelona from Manchester City last summer on a free transfer and the German has gone on to become one of the most dependable players for Barca, capable of fitting seamlessly into any of their four midfield positions.

In recent times, he has been operating as a No. 10 to help unlock Lewandowski and he has developed a strong understanding with the Polish striker, achieving a career high number of assists in the process.

The German international has contributed 5 goals and 8 assists across 35 La Liga appearances this season.

1. Robert Lewandoski

Lewandoski seemed to be struggling with form at the start of the campaign but the Polish striker has buried all that worry under an impressive number of goal contributions for the Blaugrana this season.

The 35-year-old center-forward has been Barcelona’s best attacker this season, establishing himself as the main source of goals for Xavi’s side and proving that he still has a lot to offer at the highest level.

Lewandoski has notched 18 goals and provided 8 assists across 34 La Liga appearances for the Blaugrana this season.
