Nigeria national team captain William Troost-Ekong has revealed that the Super Eagles are fully focused on securing victory ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash against Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday, Footynaija.com reports.

The Super Eagles look to be regaining momentum in the ongoing qualification after struggling for results in their first four outings. A 2-0 win over Rwanda at the Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali has reignited their hopes of securing a World Cup ticket and they are now looking to boost those hopes with another win over the Warriors in Uyo.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Troost-Ekong acknowledged that the three-time African champions are anticipating a difficult game against the Warriors, nevertheless, he emphasized that the Super Eagles are determined to get a win.

“The game against Rwanda is something in the past and to touch on that very briefly, I think we were very happy with our start but now we’re focused one hundred percent on the game against Zimbabwe tomorrow,” Troost-Ekong said.

“As we’ve learnt over the years, there’s no such thing as an easy game in Africa for qualification. They are very motivated as well from what we understand but we know that being here in Uyo is an advantage for us so we are preparing to continue the work that we did in the last week but we have a big job at hand and everyone is taking it very seriously.

“Like the coach said we’re very much looking forward to the game tomorrow and rising to the occasion again and for us, the only thing that would count in the end is to win the game.”
