AS Monaco are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi before the January transfer window closes, Soccernet.football understands.

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Ligue 1 outfit have identified the Nigerian international as a priority target to bolster their midfield.

Ndidi, 28, has been a pivotal figure for Leicester since his arrival from Racing Genk in 2017. His defensive solidity, tactical awareness, and ball-winning ability have made him one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders over the years.

Monaco believe the Super Eagles star’s experience and skillset would provide much-needed depth and quality to their squad.

The French side is said to be keen on structuring a deal that involves an initial loan move with an option to buy.

However, discussions are likely to be complicated, as Leicester City reportedly remain reluctant to entertain such an arrangement. Despite the buyout clause in Ndidi’s current contract, the Foxes are not inclined to lose one of their key players under these terms.

Ndidi has enjoyed a successful stay in England, helping Leicester to a historic Emirates FA Cup triumph in 2021, the FA Community Shield victory, and last season’s Championship title that secured the club’s return to the Premier League. Individually, he was recognized as Leicester City’s Young Player of the Year in both 2017 and 2018.
