Leicester City defender Caleb Okoli is reportedly contemplating a swift return to Italy, merely six months after his move to the Premier League, Soccernet.football understands.

The 23-year-old centre-back, who joined Leicester from Atalanta on a five-year deal in July 2024, has found opportunities hard to come by in England’s top flight.

Okoli made his competitive debut for Leicester City on 1 September 2024 in a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa. Since then, he has featured in 13 of Leicester City’s 22 Premier League matches, starting only nine. The Foxes, who were promoted to the Premier League after winning the Championship title last season, are currently languishing in the relegation zone, second from bottom.

Despite his limited appearances, Okoli has caught the eye of several Italian clubs, fueling speculation of a possible return to Serie A.

Okoli previously impressed while on loan at Frosinone in the 2022-23 season and is convinced that he could secure regular playing time in Italy’s top division.

In recent days, Okoli has been linked with a move to Cagliari. However, market expert Nicolò Schira reported that the defender has been offered to Napoli, managed by Antonio Conte.

Napoli are not the only club interested in Okoli.

Bologna are also reportedly keen on signing the young defender. The club’s management, headed by Giovanni Sartori and Marco Di Vaio, is known for investing in young talent without disrupting the current squad dynamics. Okoli’s name has reportedly appeared on Bologna’s list of potential recruits.

Earlier in January, Serie B side Parma also expressed interest in Okoli. However, a move to Italy’s second division may not appeal to the versatile defender, who aspires to continue playing at the highest level.

Okoli, born in Vicenza to Nigerian parents, has represented Italy at various youth levels, including the U21s. He was called up to the senior squad for UEFA Nations League matches in 2024 but did not make an appearance, leaving the possibility of representing Nigeria still open.
