Manchester United forward Amad Diallo revealed that his desire to “fight for this club” inspired his decision to sign a lengthy contract extension at Old Trafford, Soccernet.football reports.

Amad has no doubt been one of United’s most outstanding players in what has been a very difficult season for the Red Devils who currently sit 14th on the Premier League table after 20 games.

United’s poor start to the season under Erik ten Hag saw the Dutchman lose his job, with highly rated former Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim recruited by the Man United hierarchy to turn things around at the club.

However, the 39-year-old Portuguese manager has had to endure a tough start to life at the helm of affairs as the current United squad have struggled to grasp the fundamentals of his 3-4-2-1 system.

Despite all of United’s struggles since Amorim’s arrival, one bright spot for all Red Devils faithful is Ivorian winger Amad, whose rejuvenation under the Portuguese boss has sparked hopes for the future.

Amad, whose contract was set to expire next summer, has now signed a five-and-a-half-year contract extension with the Red Devils. Speaking after signing the contract, he told the club’s channels.

“Every time I’m on the pitch, I want to fight for this club, and I’m so happy to be here for a long time.”

Giving his thoughts on United’s progress under Amorim, Amad continued: “Yeah, we learn every day. We learn, you know, it’s a new system for everyone. At the beginning it was not easy, but I think now the team is starting to understand the system a little bit more.

“The manager and the staff are, every day, at the training ground to help us, to understand more of the system. We are very happy to have them and we want to follow them for the system, because we know at the end we will have success.”
