Watford have reportedly made a bold move to secure Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho on a short-term loan from Sevilla, Soccernet.football reports.

The Hornets are seeking reinforcements to bolster their attack for the remainder of the Sky Bet Championship season, with the 28-year-old seen as a potential solution.

Iheanacho joined Sevilla in the summer of 2024 but has struggled to make an impact in Spain.

Despite his pedigree as a former Leicester City star, he has failed to score in nine La Liga appearances this season, raising doubts about his form and fitness.

Sevilla’s head coach, Xavier García Pimienta, recently confirmed receiving offers for the striker, though he refrained from disclosing the identities of the suitors.

Reports from Spain indicate that Watford are among the clubs interested in signing the Nigerian, whose time in England included a successful spell at Leicester.

During his tenure with the Foxes, Iheanacho scored 61 goals and provided 34 assists across 232 matches, solidifying his reputation as a clinical finisher. The former Manchester City lad is also Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in FA Cup history with 18 goals in only 15 appearances.

While his recent struggles present risks for Watford, a fully fit Iheanacho could significantly elevate Watford’s attacking options and alleviate the burden currently placed on Vakoun Bayo.

Bayo has been the Hornets’ standout performer this season, netting nine goals in 23 appearances.

Despite his contributions, Watford lack depth upfront, with Daniel Jebbison the only other senior striker available. Manager Tom Cleverley is keen to strengthen his squad in January, and while a permanent signing remains the priority, Iheanacho could serve as a valuable stopgap.
