RB Leipzig’s Oliver Mintzlaff has taken a swipe at Bayern Munich’s ongoing struggle to find a new head coach, Soccernet.football reports.

Bayern Munich has been searching for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel since February. Despite attempts to lure Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ralf Rangnick, the club has not secured a new manager. It now seems likely that Tuchel may remain in his position.

Oliver Mintzlaff, managing director of Red Bull and former CEO of RB Leipzig, mocked Bayern’s lengthy search. Speaking on the Spielmacher podcast, he said, “Bayern has always been a good customer of ours. But we currently have nothing we can offer them for, let’s say, 25 million.”

Mintzlaff was referencing the significant transfer fee Bayern paid for Nagelsmann in 2021. He expressed regret over losing Nagelsmann, believing that RB Leipzig could have won the Bundesliga title if he had stayed.

Bayern Munich’s bosses, Max Eberl and Christoph Freund, who also have ties to the Red Bull sports organization, are reportedly close to finalizing an agreement to keep Tuchel as head coach.

Tuchel and Bayern Munich had announced earlier that the German tactician was on course to leave his role at the end of the season after overseeing a disappointing campaign for the Bavarians.

The former Chelsea manager led Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title last year, but lost his magic wand this season as the German giants are poised to end the campaign trophyless.

Bayern Munich surrendered their Bundesliga title to Xabi Alonso-led Bayer Leverkusen, who are one game away from competing the league season undefeated.

The Bavarians also lost out to Real Madrid in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League.
