Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen made Nigerian football history on Wednesday night after scoring in Galatasaray’s thrilling 4-2 victory over Lille in the UEFA Champions League, Footynaija reports.
The 27-year-old forward struck in the 61st minute at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, helping the Turkish champions secure their first points of the competition’s league phase.
More importantly, Osimhen became the first Nigerian footballer to score for three different clubs in the Champions League proper, having previously found the net for Lille and Napoli.
The historic goal came against his former employers, where he first announced himself on the European stage during the 2019-20 season.
However, Osimhen refused to celebrate against Lille, raising both hands in respect for the French club and its supporters.
Galatasaray had taken an early lead through Yunus Akgün in the second minute, but Soriba Diaoune scored twice to put Lille 2-1 ahead.
Alexey Batrakov restored parity just before halftime before an own goal from goalkeeper Berke Özer handed the visitors a 3-2 advantage seven minutes after the restart.
Osimhen then struck nine minutes later to seal an impressive away victory.
Having previously represented Lille and Napoli in Europe’s premier club competition, Osimhen continues to make his mark with Galatasaray.
His first Champions League goal of the 2026-27 campaign also provided a timely boost for the Turkish giants as they seek to progress beyond the league phase.
