Super Eagles defender Chibuike Nwaiwu has credited Trabzonspor’s tactical organisation and goalkeeper Andre Onana for their defensive solidity after Monday’s 2-0 victory over Besiktas, Footynaija.com reports.
The Nigerian centre-back played the full 90 minutes at Papara Park as Trabzonspor secured an important victory against one of their Turkish Super Lig rivals, keeping a clean sheet to claim all three points.
Ozan Tufan opened the scoring in the 21st minute before Mohamed Salah doubled the hosts’ advantage in the second half, sealing a fourth consecutive win for Thomas Reis’ side in all competitions.
Speaking after the match, Nwaiwu admitted that Trabzonspor had faced a difficult test but was pleased with the team’s ability to secure the victory.

“First of all, we can say that it was a very difficult match for us. We played against a very good team. We scored two goals and then won, we are leaving with three points,” the defender said.
“One of the reasons we conceded so few goals is that we have been working on formations as a team. Our goalkeeper is also helping us a lot in this regard.”

Beyond Monday’s victory, Nwaiwu made it clear that Trabzonspor must continue working hard if they are to turn their recent momentum into a serious challenge for the league title.
The defender acknowledged that winning the championship would require sustained effort, suggesting that the team understands the demands of competing at the highest level.
“We will go through very big stages to become champions. We know that becoming champions comes through very hard work,” he said.
The result strengthens Trabzonspor’s position in the early-season standings and extends their winning run under Reis to four consecutive matches.
For Nwaiwu, maintaining the defensive discipline displayed against Besiktas will be important as Trabzonspor look to build on their recent results and remain competitive in the race for domestic honours.
