Lazio are reportedly preparing to open contract-extension talks with Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Footynaija reports.
It is a development that could complicate the plans of Premier League clubs interested in bringing him back to England.
The Italian club wants to retain the Nigerian international as part of its long-term project under manager Gennaro Gattuso, with discussions expected to begin around December, per Lazio 24 News. Dele-Bashiru’s current contract runs until 2028, giving Lazio time to negotiate without facing immediate pressure to sell.
However, the midfielder has already attracted interest from England, and Lazio’s latest reported decision could force his suitors to reconsider their transfer plans.
Manchester United, Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland were among the Premier League clubs linked with Dele-Bashiru earlier in 2026. Bournemouth reportedly made a loan offer with an option to buy, but Lazio rejected the proposal because it did not meet their expectations. Trabzonspor also explored a possible move.
Reports in May indicated that three unnamed Premier League clubs were still tracking the midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window. Dele-Bashiru was reportedly open to returning to England despite being happy in Italy.
The renewed contract discussions could strengthen Lazio’s negotiating position if those clubs revive their interest. With the midfielder tied to the Italian side until 2028, the club would have little reason to accept an offer that does not match its valuation.
Dele-Bashiru also has an opportunity to strengthen his position following his return from injury. He came off the bench in Lazio’s 3-1 victory over Monza on October 11, making his first competitive appearance since suffering a hamstring injury against Bologna in August.
