Nottingham Forest have been urged to offer Ola Aina another contract despite the Nigeria international being tied to the City Ground until the summer of 2028, Footynaija reports.
The recommendation comes from Football Insider, which has identified the 30-year-old defender as one of three Forest players deserving fresh terms, alongside midfielder Xaver Schlager and winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The report follows a difficult start to Oliver Glasner’s tenure, with Forest sitting 13th in the Premier League table.
Aina’s future has attracted fresh attention after he was displaced at right-back under Glasner. However, his ability to operate on either side of the defence gives the Austrian manager another option as he reshapes his squad.
The former Chelsea academy graduate signed his current three-year deal in July 2025 after an impressive campaign in which Forest finished seventh in the Premier League. He started 35 of their 38 league matches in 2024-25, scored twice and established himself as one of the club’s most dependable defenders.
Aina won possession in the defensive third more times than any other player across Europe’s top five leagues during the 2024-25 season.
Having joined from Torino on a free transfer in 2023, the full-back has delivered considerable value through his consistency and versatility. His experience in England and Italy could prove useful as Forest attempt to build a more settled defence under Glasner.
A fresh contract would nevertheless be a forward-looking decision rather than an immediate necessity, given that Aina’s existing agreement has almost two years left to run.
With competition for places intensifying at the City Ground, the challenge for Aina is to reclaim a regular starting role and convince Forest that his best years in Nottingham are still ahead.
