Victor Osimhen has once again been at the centre of a special gesture away from football, with the Galatasaray striker helping bring a long-held wish closer for a young supporter who recently lost his father in the Soma mine tragedy, Footynaija.com reports.
The 13-year-old, Yaşar Ören, became known in Türkiye after images from his father Kerim Ören’s funeral showed him standing beside his father’s coffin.
Kerim was one of five miners who died after a collapse at an underground coal mine in Soma on October 1. Two other workers were rescued injured.
Yaşar is a Galatasaray supporter and had wanted to watch his team play at the stadium with his father. That wish was left unfulfilled after Kerim’s death, but the teenager has now been offered a different chance to experience the club he loves.
Osimhen’s signed shirt reaches Yaşar
Galatasaray congress member and businessman Dinçer Azaphan had contacted Yaşar after seeing the images from his father’s funeral and promised to support him. He later travelled to Kırkağaç to visit the teenager at home and delivered the Galatasaray shirt he had promised.
The shirt was signed by Victor Osimhen, whose popularity at Galatasaray has made the Nigerian striker one of the club’s biggest stars. Earlier reports said Yaşar’s wish was to receive an Osimhen shirt, alongside a personalised Galatasaray kit and an invitation to watch the team at the stadium.
Azaphan has reportedly now gone further by promising to take Yaşar to Istanbul, where he can meet Osimhen. He also said the youngster, who plays football at youth level, could train with a Galatasaray academy side when he visits and urged him to work towards becoming a player like Osimhen or Barış Alper Yılmaz.
Yaşar thanked Azaphan for visiting him and said he would go to Istanbul to meet Osimhen, turning a difficult moment in his life into an opportunity to get closer to the club and player he admires.
