Edo Queens are aiming to make Nigerian women’s football history after beating Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies to win the 2026 WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament, Footynaija reports.
The Nigerian champions won 4-1 on penalties after an exciting 2-2 draw at the August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on Saturday.
The victory gives Edo Queens the only qualification ticket from WAFU Zone B for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Edo Queens had to fight back twice during the match before forcing the game into a penalty shootout with a late equaliser in the 93rd minute.
They then kept their cool from the spot, with defenders Valentina Uroko and Ifeoma Ikenokwalu both scoring their penalties. Ikenokwalu converted the decisive kick to complete the victory.
The result also gave Edo Queens revenge against Ampem Darkoa, who had beaten them 2-1 in their final Group B match. That defeat was the only setback suffered by the Nigerian side during the tournament.
Coach Kennedy Boboye’s team will now turn their attention to the CAF Women’s Champions League, where they will try to go further than any Nigerian club has managed before.
Nigeria has produced some of Africa’s best women’s players and the Super Falcons are the continent’s most successful national team. However, no Nigerian club has won the CAF Women’s Champions League since the competition began in 2021.
Rivers Angels were eliminated in the group stage in 2021, while Bayelsa Queens finished third in 2022.
Edo Queens came close in 2024 when they reached the semi-finals but lost 3-1 to TP Mazembe after extra time. They later finished fourth after losing to FC Masar on penalties.
That experience could now help Edo Queens when they return to the continental stage.
Having beaten Ghana’s best club to secure their place in the tournament, Edo Queens will hope to take another step forward and finally end Nigeria’s long wait for a CAF Women’s Champions League title.
