Super Eagles midfielder Kelechi Nwakali is set to continue his career in Cyprus after agreeing to join First Division side Omonia 29is Maiou just a few hours after leaving Barnsley, Footynaija.com reports.
Nwakali is already in Cyprus as he looks to complete his move to the newly found club after bringing his two-year spell with Barnsley to an end.
The 28-year-old is expected to sign a one-year contract with Omonia 29is Maiou, keeping him at the Cypriot outfit until the end of the 26/27 season.

Nwakali’s transfer is, however, yet to be officially announced as the midfielder is currently undergoing his medical examinations and completing the final formalities ahead of the move.
His arrival in Cyprus comes just a day after Barnsley confirmed that they had reached an agreement with the Nigerian to terminate his contract by mutual consent.
Nwakali joined the English League One club from Portuguese side Chaves in August 2024 and made 30 appearances during his time at Oakwell, scoring once.
The midfielder enjoyed a promising first season with the Reds, featuring 26 times across all competitions, but his fortunes changed dramatically ahead of the 25/26 campaign.
Nwakali reportedly returned late from his summer holiday in Nigeria due to family issues, an incident that left him out of favour with the club’s management.
He was subsequently excluded from first-team training and Barnsley’s pre-season tour, with the midfielder spending much of the campaign away from the first-team picture.
Despite making four late substitute appearances towards the end of last season, Nwakali remained outside the plans of new manager Daniel Stendel and had not featured for Barnsley this season.
His contract was originally due to run until the summer of 2027, but both parties opted to bring the agreement to an early end.
Nwakali now has an immediate opportunity to put the difficult chapter in England behind him and get his career back on track in Cyprus.
