Arthur Okonkwo could be facing an important decision over his Wrexham future, with Championship clubs Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers reportedly interested in the Nigeria goalkeeper, Footynaija reports.
The 24-year-old has moved down the goalkeeping order at Wrexham after the club signed Anthony Patterson from Sunderland for a record fee. Danny Ward is also ahead of Okonkwo in the current pecking order.
That could make a move away from Wrexham possible before the transfer window closes, with Sports Illustrated reporting that Charlton and Bolton are monitoring his situation.
There is also a reason for Wrexham to consider a sale. Okonkwo is entering the final year of his contract. If he stays until the end of the season without signing a new deal, Wrexham could lose him for nothing.
Okonkwo has played an important role in Wrexham’s recent rise. He first joined the club on loan in the 2023-24 season before making the move permanent the following campaign.
His time at Wrexham has followed a remarkable journey. He helped the club win back-to-back promotions from League Two to the Championship.
The Nigerian goalkeeper has made 121 appearances for Wrexham, keeping 47 clean sheets and conceding 127 goals.
His career started at Arsenal, where he spent 15 years after joining the club’s academy at the age of eight. He later left the London club to continue his senior career elsewhere.
Okonkwo has also strengthened his case at international level. He was part of the Nigeria squad that won the 2026 Unity Cup, keeping clean sheets in wins over Zimbabwe and Jamaica.
With his Wrexham future uncertain, a move to another Championship club could give the Super Eagles goalkeeper a fresh chance to play regularly.
