Everton have completed the permanent signing of exciting young winger Tyrique George from Chelsea in a deal that could rise to £24 million with the player also remaining on the radar of Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, Footynaija reports.

The Merseyside club will pay £18 million upfront, while another £6 million could follow if George reaches agreed performance targets. Chelsea also secured a 15% sell-on clause, allowing them to earn from any future transfer involving the 20-year-old.

George impressed during his loan spell at Everton last season, making 11 Premier League appearances and convincing manager David Moyes that he deserved a long-term place in the squad. The transfer is expected to be finalised after he completes his medical and signs his contract. He becomes Everton’s second major arrival of the summer after midfielder Hayden Hackney.

The move is also attracting attention in Nigeria because George can still choose to play for the Super Eagles. Born in London to a Nigerian father and a Ghanaian mother, he is eligible to represent Nigeria, England or Ghana since he has not played a competitive senior international match.

George has featured for England at several youth levels but has previously spoken proudly about his Nigerian background, putting him on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation and Chelle, who is looking to strengthen his team with talented dual-nationality players.

A product of Chelsea’s famous academy, George broke into the first team during the 2024-25 season and won the club’s Men’s Academy Player of the Year award. With Chelsea bringing in several new attacking players, his route to regular football became difficult, making Everton the perfect place to continue his development. Strong performances next season could also move him closer to a first senior call-up from Nigeria.
