Former Flying Eagles forward Ahmed Abdullahi is expected to leave Sunderland on loan this summer, with Belgian heavyweights Club Brugge and Genk among the clubs interested in securing his services ahead of the new season, Footynaija.com understands.
Abdullahi arrived at the Stadium of Light from Belgian outfit KAA Gent in the summer of 2024 but has struggled to find his feet in England due to a series of injury setbacks.
The fitness issues prevented the 22-year-old from making a competitive first-team appearance last season despite spending time training with Sunderland’s senior squad.
Ahead of the new Premier League season, the Black Cats are understood to believe a temporary move would provide the Nigerian striker with the regular first-team football needed to further his development and rebuild his confidence after an injury-disrupted year.

Footy-Africa reports that Belgium has emerged as the most likely destination for Abdullahi, with both Club Brugge and Genk closely monitoring his situation.
Having previously played in the Belgian top flight with Gent, the striker is already familiar with the league, making a return an attractive option for all parties.
Genk are believed to be leading the race for the former Nigeria U-20 international’s signature, with the club’s impressive track record of nurturing Nigerian talents viewed as a key factor.
Despite his injury struggles, Abdullahi showed encouraging signs whenever he featured for Sunderland’s Under-21 side, scoring six goals in just seven appearances across Premier League 2 and Premier League Cup competitions.
The young forward remains under contract at Sunderland until 2028, but with fierce competition for places expected next season, a loan spell could offer the ideal platform to rediscover his rhythm before returning to challenge for a place in Regis Le Bris’ plans.
