Kelechi Iheanacho may be set to leave Celtic with interest from Turkey threatening the Scottish club’s hopes of keeping the Nigerian striker, Footynaija reports.
The Super Eagles forward is currently back in Nigeria, where he is working on his fitness while waiting for a decision on his next club. He was not part of Celtic’s first pre-season sessions at Lennoxtown, adding to speculation about what comes next for the 29-year-old.
Iheanacho’s contract situation has changed after Celtic’s option to keep him for an extra year expired, as reported by the Scottish Sun. That means the former Manchester City and Leicester City attacker is now available to move elsewhere without any transfer fee.
Despite the uncertainty, Iheanacho is understood to be interested in staying at Celtic after helping the club win the Scottish Premiership title last season. The striker enjoyed his time in Glasgow and would welcome the chance to continue at Parkhead.
However, Celtic have not yet opened talks over a fresh contract. That delay has created an opportunity for clubs in Turkey, with several sides reportedly preparing attractive financial packages to convince him to leave Scotland.
Interest is also growing from other parts of Europe, putting more pressure on Celtic to make a decision quickly. Unless the Scottish champions move soon, they could lose one of their experienced attacking options before the new campaign begins.
