Nigeria have put structures in place to ensure the Super Falcons head into their title defence at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations without any off-field distractions, with the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) jointly establishing a dedicated welfare committee ahead of the tournament in Morocco, Footynaija.com reports.

The seven-member body was unveiled following discussions between NSC Director General Bukola Olopade and NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi in Abuja. NFF Executive Committee member Aisha Falode will chair the committee, with Ruth David serving as secretary. The remaining members are Rt. Hon. Margaret Icheen, Babagana Kalli, Emeka Iyama, Aderonke Tinuoye and Tobechukwu Oluchi.

Speaking on the initiative, as confirmed by TVC News, Olopade tied the committee’s establishment to the presidency.

“The Super Falcons’ welfare is non-negotiable. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, are personally committed to ensuring the team successfully defends its WAFCON title in Morocco. That is why this committee has been established to work alongside the NFF and guarantee a seamless campaign for the team,” he said.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) and NFF have set up a 7-member Welfare Committee to support the Super Falcons' campaign at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

He added that the welfare of players remains one of the most critical ingredients for success at any major tournament.

For Sanusi, the committee carries a specific historical weight. He described it as the first time such a body has been put in place for the senior women’s team ahead of a major championship, calling it a landmark moment for women’s football in Nigeria.

“This is another history-making step by the NSC and the NFF. It reflects the importance being attached to women’s football and will further accelerate the growth of the women’s game in Nigeria,” he said.

He also clarified what the committee’s presence in Morocco will and will not mean.

“The committee is not going to Morocco to take over anyone’s responsibilities. Its assignment is to ensure we have a smooth and successful campaign throughout the tournament,” Sanusi added.

The Super Falcons go to Morocco as nine-time African champions and the continent’s most decorated women’s side, carrying the weight of expectation that comes with every title defence.
