Philip Otele is among the Super Eagles players who have already reported to camp ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 Unity Cup semi-final against Zimbabwe at The Valley in London on Tuesday, May 26, Footynaija.com reports.
Nigeria’s preparations for the tournament gathered momentum on Saturday with some players arriving at the Super Eagles camp in London, with the evening workout scheduled at Cray Valley FC in Middle Park Avenue.
The 27-year-old Port Harcourt-born winger made his name at CFR Cluj during the 2023/24 season, finishing as joint top scorer in the Romanian Liga I with 18 league goals before moving to Al Wahda and then returning to Europe with Basel, where he helped the club win the Swiss league title.
He joined Hamburger SV on loan in early 2026. Otele has previously featured for the Super Eagles in friendly matches against Iraq and Jordan, though his appearances did not fully convince the coaching staff.
The Unity Cup is another opportunity to make his case under Eric Chelle.
Philip Otele speaks
Speaking to Proudly Austin ahead of the Zimbabwe clash, the winger described what he brings to the Super Eagles and reflected on the atmosphere in camp.
“The way I play is kind of dynamic. I can go in behind with pace. I can link up play as well. I can finish, I can cross, assist. It’s a little bit of everything so I can bring this dynamic nature,” Otele said.
On settling into the squad, he added: “It has been very good. I’m really grateful for this opportunity. The coaching staff, the players, everyone has been so welcoming. I am really proud to be with this team. You can see everyone is hungry, they are hungry to take the next step to join the team. They are motivated, so it has been good to train with them.”
