Zimbabwe captain Marshall Munetsi says his side cannot wait to face the Super Eagles as the Warriors prepare for their 2026 Unity Cup semi-final clash at The Valley in London on Tuesday, May 26, Footynaija.com reports.

The experienced midfielder linked up with his teammates in Birmingham as preparations began for the four-nation invitational tournament, which also features Jamaica and India.

Nigeria and Zimbabwe are no strangers to each other, having met twice during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with both matches finishing 1-1, the first played at a neutral venue in Kigali, Rwanda, and the second at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Nigeria’s squad for the tournament includes 12 players receiving their first senior Super Eagles call-ups under coach Eric Chelle, who was appointed in January 2025.

Marshall Munetsi speaks

Speaking to the Zimbabwe FA media team, as revealed by Thisdaylive, ahead of the fixture, Munetsi said the Nigeria game is the one the entire squad has been looking forward to, describing the tournament as valuable preparation before the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.

“We have some big games coming up, the first one is against Nigeria which everyone is looking forward to. We have some new guys coming in, some fresh faces. It’s a good opportunity for us to know each other. Obviously these two games are important, but the one we are looking forward to is the AFCON qualifiers that are coming up.”

“We know how much these matches mean to the fans, especially Zimbabweans here in the UK. We appreciate their support and we want to give them something to be proud of,” the Paris FC midfielder said.
