Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has expressed gratitude to the fans and staff of Werder Bremen as his season-long loan with the Bundesliga outfit comes to an end with the conclusion of the 2025/2026 German top-flight season, Footynaija.com reports.
Boniface joined the River Islanders on loan from fellow Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen last summer as he looked to bounce back from that failed high-profile move to AC Milan and get his career back on track.
However, things didn’t go as planned for the Nigeria international upon his arrival at the Weser Stadion. A lack of match fitness restricted him to just two starts in 11 Bundesliga appearances before a serious knee injury ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Boniface missed Werder Bremen’s last 21 games of the season, with his last appearance coming in form of a late cameo as the River Islanders beat Hamburger SV 3-1 back in December 7, 2025.
Earlier on Saturday, the former Bundesliga Rookie of the year took to his X (formerly Twitter) page to thank Werder Bremen for taking a chance on and supporting him despite the many setbacks over the course of the season.
”Wow. Crazy season for me, a lot has happened,” Boniface wrote.
“I just want to say thank you very much to the fans and staff and players.”
Boniface will now return to Bayer Leverkusen where his current contract runs until the summer of 2028. At the moment, where his future lies remains uncertain, especially considering that the former Bundesliga champions considered him surplus to requirements at the start of the season.
