French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais FC have become the latest European side to show serious interest in Nigerian teenager Zadok Yohanna after his impressive breakthrough season in Sweden with AIK Fotboll, Footynaija reports.
According to Fotbolltransfers, Rennes have stepped up their pursuit of the 18-year-old winger following a string of exciting displays in the early weeks of the Allsvenskan campaign. Yohanna has made a bright start to life in Sweden, registering two goals and three assists in his first seven league appearances and quickly becoming one of the most talked-about young players in Scandinavian football.
His rapid rise has alerted several major clubs across Europe. Scouts from top sides have reportedly attended AIK matches regularly this season, with Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, RB Leipzig and AFC Ajax all linked with the Nigerian youngster.
Rennes are now believed to be working hard to convince Yohanna that France would be the best destination for his development. However, competition remains fierce, especially after Real Madrid reportedly entered the race for the attacker in recent weeks.
The teenager’s emergence has also attracted attention in Nigeria. Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle is understood to be closely monitoring several young Nigerian players abroad as part of his long-term rebuilding plans for the national team.
Despite growing transfer speculation, AIK remain in a strong position. The Swedish club tied Yohanna to a contract running until 2029 and are under no immediate pressure to sell. Reports in Sweden claim AIK could demand between €20m and €30m for the winger, a fee that would place him among the biggest sales in Scandinavian football history.
Although he is currently recovering from a thigh injury suffered during a recent derby against Djurgårdens IF, interest in the Nigerian appears stronger than ever ahead of the summer transfer window.
