Werder Bremen chief Peter Niemeyer has provided an encouraging update on the current fitness status of Super Eagles defender Felix Agu, Footynaija.com reports.
Agu has managed just over 700 minutes so far this season, recording nine starts in eleven Bundesliga outings due to varying injury setbacks over the course of the campaign.
The Nigeria international’s latest setback, a muscle injury sustained since mid-April, has kept him out of Werder Bremen’s last four Bundesliga matches against the likes of Hamburg, Stuttgart, Augsburg and TSG Hoffenheim.
However, Niemeyer recently revealed while speaking to DiechStube that Agu has fully recovered from his muscle problem and will be in contention to feature in this weekend’s crucial encounter with Borussia Dortmund.

“Felix is healthy again and therefore a candidate for the position. Both (Agu and Isaac Schmidt) are thus in contention for a starting spot,” he said.
Felix Agu’s recovery, a big boost for Super Eagles

Agu’s return to fitness comes not just as a major boost for his European employers, but also for the Nigeria national team ahead of upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June.
The Super Eagles have also borne the brunt of Agu’s fitness setbacks this season, with the versatile left sided defender crucially missing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after suffering a serious syndesmosis ligament injury to left knee.
Now, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle will be hoping that Agu can stay fit for this final weeks of the season and regain some level of match fitness as the Franco-Malian boss prepares to unveil his squad for the upcoming international commitments in the coming days.
