Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has praised Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka for his role in helping the Sky Blues earn promotion to the Premier League after 25 years in the lower tiers of English football, Footynaija.com reports.
The former Chelsea midfielder brought in Onyeka on loan from Brentford during the winter transfer window, with Coventry City enduring a rough patch and struggling to get results at the time.
Interestingly, Onyeka’s arrival coincided with an instant return to winning form as Lampard’s charges embarked on an impressive run of eight wins from nine games to overtake Middlesbrough at the summit of the EFL Championship standings.

Fast-forward to fourteen games later with ten victories and only one defeat in that period, Coventry City are already crowned champions of the 25/26 EFL Championship season and are now eagerly anticipating their official return to top flight football.
Reflecting on his side’s incredible campaign in a recent interview with talkSPORT, Lampard hailed Onyeka, who has featured in all fourteen matches since his debut against Middlesbrough, for his crucial role in the club’s achievements.
Lampard hails ‘brilliant’ Frank Onyeka

“Frank has been brilliant,” the 47-year-old English tactician said.
“He was a profile of a player we needed in that moment and he’s come in and given us everything we need, which has really helped the balance of our midfield with what Grimesy does and whoever plays in that 10, how they play.”

Onyeka and Coventry City’s love story will continue in the Premier League next season as the Sky Blues are mandated to sign him permanently this summer after achieving promotion to the English top flight.
The Nigeria international’s playing experience as well as Lampard’s coaching experience could prove absolutely vital in helping Coventry navigate the demanding nature of the Premier League without drowning under the immense pressure like most newly promoted sides.
