Rangers manager Danny Rohl has sent a subtle cease and desist message to the potential suitors of Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez amid growing interest from top clubs across Europe ahead of the summer transfer window, Footynaija.com reports.
Fernandez has developed rapidly since joining Rangers from League One outfit Peterborough United last summer and his impressive rise is duly turning heads across Europe’s top five leagues with Premier League duo Arsenal and West Ham United said to be particularly interested in securing his services.
Many would consider a move to either of the aforementioned sides as a step up in Fernandez’s career but Rohl has other ideas. In what appears to be a subtle warning aimed at discouraging potential suitors, the Rangers boss emphasized the stature of the Scottish giants and their ability to provide a working environment that rivals other top clubs.
Danny Rohl wants Emmanuel Fernandez at Ibrox beyond this summer

“In terms of Manny [Fernandez], he knows what he has here,” Rohl said at a press conference. “He’s developed very quickly. We should not forget that one year ago he was playing in League One.
“Now he plays for a big club. And if everything goes well and we get what we want, maybe we can play next year in the highest competition (Champions League).
“We have a good training ground, fantastic stadium, nice city, good fans, good owner and the group together and I think it helps as well for players to develop and play on the highest level football.”

Fernandez has proven to be a shrewd acquisition for Rangers, with his tally of six goals in 28 appearances from the heart of defense over-justifying the Ibrox giants’ relatively meagre 3.5 million Euros investment.
Rohl’s words indicate that the 55-time Scottish Premiership winners have no intention of entertaining offers for one of their most prized defensive assets in the imminent transfer window.
Despite enduring a rocky start to the season, Rangers have steadily improved since Rohl’s arrival in October. They’re currently second on the Scottish Premier Football League standings and could secure qualification for next season’s Champions League tournament if they do not drop below that position before the end of the season.
