Fulham manager Marco Silva has issued an update on the fitness status of Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi as the Cottagers gear up for a crucial Premier League clash against Aston Villa, Footynaija.com reports.

Iwobi suffered an injury setback during Fulham’s goalless draw with west London rivals Brentford, coming off in the 43rd minute of the first half with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

At the time, Silva confirmed the versatile Nigerian’s setback to reporters but was unable to provide a definitive update about the potential duration of his star man’s absence amid fears of a season-ending injury.

However, the Portuguese tactician has now come out with a more positive update on the situation. He revealed during a press conference ahead of his side’s game against Villa that while there’s no set timeframe for Iwobi’s full recovery, the Nigeria international should return before the end of the season.

“Really bad news to lose a player like Iwobi. Kenny is still out, but back on the grass. More involved,” Silva said, per quotes revealed by Complete Sport. “Kevin is doing individual work but will be out. Difficult to say a time-scale on Alex, but back before the end of the season.”

Although the absence of Iwobi for Aston Villa’s visit to Craven Cottage on Saturday definitely comes as a massive blow for Fulham, the Cottagers can take solace in the fact that the former Arsenal creator could potentially be available for subsequent games.

Fulham have just one win from their last five Premier League outings. Silva’s men will be looking to improve this poor run of form against the Villans, but their record of six consecutive defeats in this particular fixture suggests that they’ll be up against it this weekend.
