Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie believes there are few forwards in the Scottish Premiership who can match Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho at his best, Footynaija.com reports.
Iheanacho made an encouraging start to life at Celtic after arriving as a free agent last summer, but his spell at Parkhead has been disrupted by persistent fitness issues.
The Nigerian forward has spent significant periods on the sidelines, with recurring hamstring problems halting his momentum just as he looked to settle into a consistent run of form.

Even so, glimpses of his quality in the final third have served as a reminder of the talent that once made him one of the most highly rated young forwards in Europe during his time at Manchester City.
For McAvennie, it is Iheanacho’s natural finishing instinct and composure in front of goal that set him apart, insisting the Super Eagles star remains one of the most complete strikers in the league when fully fit.
“I like Kelechi Iheanacho because when he’s up to speed and up to fitness, he’s top,” McAvennie said in an interview with Scottish Sun.
“He’s a proper, proper striker… Who’s going to be the Player of the Year? Yang probably. Or Nygren because he’s scoring.”
Iheanacho’s ongoing fitness concerns are, however, part of a wider pattern that has disrupted his career in recent seasons. His final campaign at Leicester City was derailed by injury, costing him his place in Enzo Maresca’s starting lineup.
A fresh start in Spain with Sevilla failed to provide the reset he needed, as injuries and inconsistent form limited his impact. A short-lived loan spell at Middlesbrough followed, before his contract was eventually terminated by mutual consent in September 2025.
