Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho was elated to be back amongst the goals as Celtic battled out a narrow 2-1 victory over Dundee FC at Dens Park on Sunday, Footynaija.com reports.

Iheanacho, a second half substitute in the game, found the back of the net in the 82nd minute to seal all three points for Celtic. The Nigeria international did well to bring Marcelo Saracchi’s low arrowing cross under control before rifling his shot into the bottom left corner of the net.

His goal followed strikes from Hyung-Jun Yang, who put the Hoops in front early on, and Simon Murray, who equalized for Dundee from the penalty spot three minutes before the hour mark.

Speaking after the game, Iheanacho was delighted to return to the score sheet after his recent struggles with fitness and form. The 29-year-old striker also praised his teammates for their efforts in ensuring the win.

What Kelechi Iheanacho said after scoring match-winner vs Dundee FC

“It feels good to help the team to get the win today. We really showed character and we really worked hard today to get the win,” the striker told Celtic TV.

“I think, especially in the first-half, we blew them away and had a few chances, but unfortunately it didn’t click.

“In the second-half they came back and scored the penalty, but at the end we got the points which is massive.

“I’ve been out for a while so it feels good to be back and to help the team get the win, so I’m happy.”

Celtic boss Martin O’Neil was also full of praise for Iheanacho after the game, with the Northern Irish gaffer hailing the Super Eagles man as a “very fine player” who possesses the ability to finish off chances.

O’Neil will now be hoping his striker, having battled a series of hamstring problems this season, can stay fit for the remainder of the campaign as Celtic gun for top spot in the Scottish Premiership.
