Trabzonspor’s push for the Turkish Super Lig title gathered pace on Saturday as three Nigerian players played decisive roles in a hard-fought victory over Galatasaray, Footynaija reports.
Goals from Paul Onuachu and Chibuike Nwaiwu, along with a key assist from Anthony Nwakaeme, ensured the home side secured maximum points in a match that could prove crucial in the title race.
Trabzonspor started brightly and were rewarded almost immediately. Onuachu, who has been in outstanding form this season, showed his strength and sharp positioning to head home the opening goal in the third minute.
The early strike set the tone for a confident performance from the hosts, who looked determined to extend their impressive winning run.
Galatasaray, missing injured forward Victor Osimhen, gradually grew into the game and found an equaliser shortly after the break. The visitors increased the pressure, but Trabzonspor’s response was swift and effective.
Just past the hour mark, Nwakaeme delivered a precise free-kick into the penalty area, where Nwaiwu rose highest to restore the lead with a well-placed header. It is Nwaiwu’s third league goal since joining Trabzonspor in January.
From there, Trabzonspor showed discipline and composure to protect their advantage, resisting late pressure from Galatasaray to secure an important win. The result moves them within one point of the league leaders, keeping the title race finely balanced heading into the final stretch of the season.
