Alex Iwobi has been named on the respected Football Black List, a recognition that highlights his growing influence away from the pitch as much as his performances on it, Footynaija reports.
The list, created in 2008, celebrates Black figures in football who are driving positive change in society and helping to shape the future of the game.
The Nigeria international earned his place through consistent work supporting young people, especially those from communities that often lack opportunities. Central to that effort is his Project 17 Cup, a tournament he organises during the off-season. The competition gives aspiring footballers a platform to display their talent while also learning key values such as teamwork, discipline and self-belief.

Iwobi’s commitment goes beyond organising events. He is actively involved in mentorship programmes, offering guidance to young players as they navigate both football and everyday life. His approach focuses on building confidence and providing direction, ensuring that participants are prepared for challenges both within and outside the sport.
The honour comes during a landmark period in his career. In 2025, Iwobi became the first Nigerian to reach 300 appearances in the Premier League, surpassing the long-standing record of Shola Ameobi. He also holds the record for the most assists by a Nigerian in the competition.
