Hamburger SV have provided an update regarding the potential availability of Super Eagles invitee Philip Otele ahead of their crucial Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, Footynaija.com reports.
Die Rothosen make the long trip to Dortmund’s SIGNAL IDUNA PARK for their 27th match of the ongoing Bundesliga season and it appears that they’ll have to manage without a number of key players as they look to extend their unbeaten run in the German top flight to three games.
In general squad update made public via the club’s official website, it was revealed that while key players like Yussuf Poulsen, Nicolas Capaldo, Bakery Jatta, and Alexander Rössing-Lelesiit will be unavailable, Otele has recovered from an illness and is fit enough to be part of the matchday squad.
Hamburger SV’s update on Philip Otele

“Yussuf Poulsen, Nicolas Capaldo, Bakery Jatta, and Alexander Rössing-Lelesiit will be unavailable for the away match in Dortmund due to injury. Meanwhile, all remaining players are available, including Philip Otele and Albert Grönbaek, who were recently ill. The squad for the Dortmund match will be decided after the final training session on Friday.”
While Otele is still finding his feet at Hamburg, with just one goal contribution in six appearances to his name since arriving at the German club from Swiss outfit FC Basel in the winter transfer window, his availability for selection is definitely a welcome boost in attack for Hamburger.
The 26-year-old winger’s overall performances in games have been really impressive and his record of five starts in six outings shows that he’s steadily becoming a crucial player at the Volksparkstadion.
Hamburger’s last three Bundesliga visits to the SIGNAL IDUNA PARK ended in comprehensive defeats, with the most recent being a 2-0 loss in the 2017/2018 season. However, they can take confidence from their 1-1 draw with Dortmund at the Volksparkstadion earlier this season as they target another positive result.
