Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare came off the bench to score and salvage a point for Wolverhampton Wanderers as they held Brentford to a thrilling 2-2 draw on Monday night, Footynaija.com reports.

Wolves entered the clash at the Gtech Community Stadium buoyed by impressive league victories over Liverpool and Aston Villa, and although they fell short of securing all three points, Rob Edwards’ men once again demonstrated resilience to claw their way back into the contest.

Brentford looked firmly in control after taking a two-goal lead, with Michael Kayode nodding home his first Premier League goal from an excellent cross by Keane Lewis-Potter, before Igor Thiago added a straightforward second.

Thiago, who had earlier received his maiden Brazil call-up, came close to extending the advantage when his effort struck the woodwork. Wolves capitalised on that let-off, as Adam Armstrong fired home to reduce the deficit before half time.

Armstrong hit the post shortly after the restart, but Wolves completed their comeback when substitute Arokodare rose to head in a delivery from Joao Gomes just three minutes after entering the fray. The Nigerian nearly snatched all three points soon after, only to see his effort come back off the crossbar.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Arokodare revealed that he simply followed his manager’s instructions which was for him to go in and provide an aerial presence for the team.

“He said I should go and try and score because we are getting a lot of chances and crosses and we needed a presence,” Arokodare told Sky Sports. “My job was to come help him and I am glad I was able to score.”

Arokodare is steadily building a reputation as an impact substitute at The Molineux. He now has three goals in the Premier League this season, with all of his strikes coming in substitute appearances for the resurgent bottom feeders.

Wolves remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table and look odds on for a return to the EFL Championship. Nevertheless, their recent upturn in form will provide plenty to cheer within the dressing room.
