Former Super Eagles forward Garba Lawal has expressed dismay at the news of Nigeria youth international Daniel Daga’s court sentencing in Norway, Footynaija.com reports.
A Norwegian court recently sentenced the 19-year-old Molde midfielder to six months in prison after finding him guilty of committing a sexual act without consent.
Reacting to the unfortunate situation, Lawal lamented the negative impact these turn of events could have on Daga’s career in the long-term.

“I read this morning that Daniel Daga was sentenced to six months in prison or something like that. If they put you for one day or for some hours, they dent your integrity,” he told Footy-Africa.
“Now, if you come out now, for example, which club in Europe wants to sign him? The same thing back home here in Nigeria; they will see you as someone that doesn’t have anything in their head. It’s so unfortunate. I saw this this morning; I weep for the young coming generation of players. I just weep for them.
“You went to their country where they have the law in their hands. Anything that the girl says, they will believe her because you are in a foreigner’s posture.”

Throughout this entire ordeal, Daga has maintained his innocence, insisting that he believes the entire encounter was consensual. His legal representative, Astrid Bolstad, revealed that the player will appeal the court’s ruling.
Meanwhile, Molde have sidelined the Nigeria U-20 international from all activities involving the first team, pending the final outcome of the court case.
