Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was full of praise for his teammates following Galatasaray’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday, Footynaija.com reports.
Osimhen scored the decisive goal of the match just six minutes before the half time whistle at Besiktas’ Tupras Stadyumu. The Nigeria international rose highest to meet Leroy Sane’s beautifully floated cross into the box, powering his header into the back of the net.
However, while reflecting on the game after full-time, the 27-year-old striker refrained from hogging the spotlight and chose instead to acknowledge the collective effort of the team to ensure victory against their city rivals.

“We knew it wouldn’t be easy. We expected to play against a tough opponent in front of thousands of fans. We had momentum in the match. We scored a goal. We struggled after the red card. That’s normal when you’re playing against a quality opponent,” he told the club’s official website. “I congratulate my teammates for both their endurance and strength. We fought very aggressively until the very end. In that respect, I’m very happy with this victory.”
Victor Osimhen praises Galatasaray’s togetherness
Galatasaray played the last half hour of the contest with a man disadvantage following Sane’s sending off for a second bookable offense in the 62nd minute. The Lions had to dig deep and managed to see out the win despite playing away from home, a feat that filled Osimhen with great pride.

“Yes, of course, first and foremost we need to follow our coach’s instructions. Besides that, there were also players among my teammates who excited and motivated me. After the goal, they called me back to defense. And as I’ve always said, I love this club very much and we are fighting to make our dreams come true. I am proud of our team. We show great unity in both our away and home games. For this, we need to take it one game at a time and fight for each other.”
The win keeps Galatasaray in a strong position at the summit of the Super Lig table. They currently hold a seven point lead although nearest rivals Fenerbahce could reduce that gap to just four points with a win over Samsunspor on Sunday.
Next up for Osimhen and Galatasaray is a crucial UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against Liverpool on Tuesday. They welcome the Reds to RAMS Park for the first leg of the encounter and will be looking to upset Arne Slot’s men for the second time this season, having taken all three points when both sides met in the league phase.
