Victor Osimhen’s rich run of form continued on Saturday as the Nigerian striker delivered the decisive moment in Galatasaray’s narrow 1–0 victory away to Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig, Footynaija reports.
The encounter at Tupras Stadyumu had all the hallmarks of a tense Istanbul derby, with heavy challenges, heated exchanges and a stream of bookings. Nine yellow cards and a red card illustrated the intensity of a contest that carried major significance in the title race.
Galatasaray ultimately found their breakthrough just before the interval, and it came through their most reliable attacking weapon. Leroy Sane floated a teasing cross into the penalty area and Osimhen rose above his marker to power a close-range header beyond the goalkeeper. The goal proved decisive in a contest that remained fiercely competitive until the final whistle.
The goal extended an impressive personal streak for the striker. Osimhen has now registered either a goal or assist in each of his last eight league matches for Galatasaray, equalling the best run of his career, first achieved during his prolific spell with Napoli in early 2023. It also marked his second goal in four appearances against Besiktas.
Galatasaray’s task became significantly harder shortly after the hour when Sane was dismissed for a dangerous challenge, leaving the visitors to play the closing stages with ten men.
Besiktas responded by dominating possession and pressing for an equaliser, even appealing for a penalty after claiming a handball in the box. The referee waved away the protests, however, and Galatasaray’s defence held firm under sustained pressure.
The result strengthens Galatasaray’s grip on the title race, moving them seven points clear at the top of the table, although second-placed Fenerbahce could trim that margin when they face Samsunspor on Sunday.
